Spring maintenance of containers
Spring is an important time to clean and inspect shipping containers. These tips will help you avoid unnecessary repair costs and keep your containers in top condition.
Examine the roof
The roof of a shipping container is one of the most important areas to check during spring maintenance. It must be checked for rust, damage, cracks and deep dents. Dents collect standing water and lead to corrosion if not repaired. Rust can also be a major problem with shipping containers, so be sure to inspect the entire outer surface of the container for rust stains. Small spots can be easily sanded and repainted.
Clean inside
A lot of dust and debris can accumulate inside the shipping container, hiding body and floor defects. When cleaning, pay special attention to any areas that may be rusty or have holes or dents. They can deteriorate over time, so be sure to repair and paint them.
Examine the doors
Doors are basic moving part of the shipping container and are subject to wear and tear from frequent use. Door hinges should be inspected and cleaned frequently to remove rust, dirt, or grit that could cause them to get stuck when opened. Then be sure to lubricate the hinges so they can open and close easily.
Check modified places (If Any)
Modifications such as cutting and welding can affect the ability of a shipping container to resist corrosion, water and dirt. These areas should be checked regularly, repainted and protected from rust in case of need. Also replace the sealant if it peels or cracks in any modified areas.
Watch the installation site
If you place a shipping container on a natural surface such as earth or clay, it may settle over time. Sometimes problems with pests, moisture accumulation and door hinges can occur. To deal with potential problems, you may need to raise the level of your container or place it on a hard, stable surface, for example on a concrete base.
